Cornishware: The History Behind Our New Product Range
Our history at the Emporium began in 1986 on a little highstreet in South Yorkshire and, as the family-owned business expanded, we adapted into an online retailer stocking a wide range of products with an emphasis on kitchen essentials. Through these years of experience, we’ve developed an eye for high-quality, value for money and above all, beautiful designs to elevate the style of every kitchen. This is why we are proud to be stocking a full range oficonically striped ceramics by Cornishware, a company with a precedent for quality and a rich history.
First produced in 1924, Cornishware quickly became the most popular of T.G. Green & Co.’s range of products. The innovate design was created using a lathe-turning technique which scraped the blue slip away from the finished ceramic, unveiling the bright white bands of contrasting clay beneath. The name itself is derived from this classic design, the rich blue and crisp white stripes evocative of the blue skies and white-crested waves of Cornwall's coast.
Since its inception, this classic range of Cornish kitchenware has become iconic; from magazines to adverts, children’s books to the stylish homes of many, it’s popularity has stood the test of time. It is no surprise that the ceramics that Cornishware have always been crafting - from bowls to basins to butter dishes – still add that traditional yet timeless feel to dinner tables all across the country.
As well as serveware essentials, Cornishware have expanded their classic range in recent years, so that not only can you bake and cook with the blue-striped basins, but you can thread the style across your entire kitchen, donning aprons and oven gloves yourself. What’s more, if blue doesn’t quite match your kitchen's colour scheme, Cornishware’s updated range now includes a vibrant red, light violet and cornish green, amongst many other shades of soft pastel and rich tones.
The restyled range now has you covered from breakfast to dinner as you cook, bake and serve. Try the delightful egg cups in the morning, cake stands and traditional teapots for afternoon tea and large plates and dip bowls for the evening feast. Even the family pet can enjoy these superior ceramics, with the double stripe dog bowl being a fun addition to the range.
With T.G. Green’s Victorian pottery house having closed in 2007, struggling to compete with the modern industry, lifelong Cornishware collectors and talented designers have come to the fore to rescue Cornishware and continue its legacy. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the people who have immersed themselves in a passion for Cornishware, these highly-prized, highly collectable and high quality products can still be celebrated on the countertops and tables of your kitchen today!
