Eco-Friendly Business

Emporium’s Eco-Friendly Mission

Here at Emporium Cookshop, we always strive to reduce our impact on the planet. More and more people around the world are waking up to the importance of helping the environment and reducing waste which is why we’re doing our part to become a greener business. Being an online business involves dealing with thousands of customers from around the world on a weekly basis. That means we use a lot of material to ensure our customers get their package delivered safely to their doorstep. In order to reduce waste, we’ve put an eco-friendly system in place. Here are some of the ways in which we’re helping to protect the environment. Thinking outside of the box Here at Emporium Cookshop, we use a lot of boxes which take a lot of trees to make. We’re always looking to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible which is why all of the cardboard boxes we order are FSC approved and made using recycled material. This gives us peace of mind knowing that the materials are sourced responsibly and our boxes can be recycled again after they’ve been used. We also aim to re-use boxes wherever possible to reduce excess waste. Eco-friendly filling In order to ensure that all of our customers get their packages delivered safely to their doorstep, we use a variety of materials to wrap up our products. Instead of choosing the cheapest or easiest options, we use a selection of eco-friendly materials that minimise waste while still keeping items safe. Paper Our first choice when packing up products is always recyclable paper or re-used newspaper. This helps to provide protection for our products and is completely recyclable which means our customers can fill up their recycling bin and reduce their household waste. Biodegradable bubble wrap Sometimes we need to provide a bit of extra padding for products that are made of glass so we use bubble wrap. Traditionally, it has been made from harsh plastics which often end up in landfills which is bad news for the environment. However, we use a biodegradable version which decays much quicker but is just as effective and fun to pop! Eco Flow A third option which we occasionally use to protect our products during transit is Eco Flow packing chips. Unlike traditional foam peanuts which are made from plastic, our Eco Flow chips are made using potato starch and water. That means, they are completely biodegradable and will not harm local wildlife or spend thousands of years in a landfill. Recycling mission Like any other business, we can sometimes produce quite a lot of waste at Emporium. Instead of simply throwing everything in the bin, we want to make sure we recycle as much as possible. All of our card, paper and plastics which can be recycled are always separated and sent to a recycling centre. Paper tape One of the most recent changes we’ve made on our mission to go green is the introduction of paper tape. Hundreds of rolls of tape get used every month here at the Emporium warehouse so we wanted to make sure it isn’t harmful to the environment. We’re aiming to ditch the old plastic tape and use our branded paper tape. So, when you see the logo on your order from Emporium Cookshop, you know that your item has been delivered in the greenest way possible.
