The summer 2018 food trends you need to know about
Summer 2018 looks to be one of the hottest we’ve had for quite a while, in more ways than one. In addition to more sunshine, there looks to be a new wave of food trends and cooking styles hitting kitchens and restaurants across the country. If you fancy yourself a foodie, whether you’re a working chef or an Instagram food fanatic, there are a few upcoming trends you should be aware of. As a cook shop, we like to keep up to date with food so here are a few of our favourites to help you stay ahead of the game.
Plant power
One of the most prominent food trends that we’ve seen rising in popularity over the last few years is a move towards plant-based diets. The vegan movement is growing rapidly but even lifelong carnivores have begun to add more greenery to their plates. In the wake of numerous health warnings regarding processed food, more people are looking for healthier, natural alternatives. In fact, many have decided to grow their own fruit and veggies. There’s never been a better time to invest in some new gardening tools and start cultivating your own crops.
Hearty, healthy breakfast
The mantra of breakfast being the most important meal of the day has been drilled into us from being children but now it seems that the foodies of the world are really taking things up a notch. If you’re an avid follower of foodie accounts on Instagram, you’ll know all about the increased number of posts featuring expertly-crafted breakfast dishes. If you want to stay on trend this season, a bowl of porridge won’t cut it. Be sure to invest in a set of quality saucepans so you can cook up a beautiful breakfast.
Speciality tea
It’s no secret that Briton’s love a good cup of tea and this summer, the food world will be jumping outside of the box with a new trend that focuses on different flavours and styles. There’s always a space on the table for a pot of classic tea but this season will see the rise of fruit infusions and spiced tea blends. Sales of special blends and alternative tea have gone through the roof this year so if you’re looking to impress your friends, get out your best teapot and brew up some flavours that are sure to tickle their taste buds.
Pasta is back
You may be unaware that pasta actually went anywhere but in the food world, the traditional Italian staple has been out of the spotlight for quite some time. However, 2018 seems to be the year in which good pasta recipes will make a triumphant return to the plates of popular food bloggers and restaurateurs around the world. Whether you’re a fan of spaghetti or it’s much heartier cousin, tagliatelle, it’s time to upgrade your pasta utensils and brush up on your pasta-making skills.
